"Uzbek Flu Epidemic to Peak in Jan-Feb 2003"

Uzbekistan is prepared for an outbreak of acute respiratory disease and flu to peak between January and February of next year, according to the Health Ministry's Nurmat Atabekov. The official noted that more than 50,000 doses of flu vaccine have been provided under a government program; the shots will primarily be given to individuals in high-risk groups. A report by the Uzbek national news agency UzA also said that the Ministry of Health of Uzbekistan has established a national center for preventing an epidemic of influenza.
