Almost 2000 international experts in autism have gathered for a congress this week in Melbourne, with former Deputy Prime Minister Tim Fischer featuring as a congress guest speaker.
Tim Fischer's 9-year-old son Harrison has autism, and this was a critcal
factor in the former deputy Prime Minister's decision to step down from politics
in 1999.
Tim has also spoken in the past admitted that he may be an undiagnosed sufferer
of autism, claiming that he shares some telling characteristic qualities with
Harrison such as intense areas of study.
Now Tim and his wife Judy spend their time working with Harrison, and helping
co-ordinate autism support groups around the country.
