"The Risk of Aseptic Meningitis Associated With the Leningrad-Zagreb Mumps Vaccine Strain Following Mass Vaccination With Measles-Mumps-Rubella Vaccine" International Journal of Epidemiology Online
(ije.oupjournals.org) (10/02) Vol. 31, No. 5, P. 978; Marcos da Silveira, Claudio; Kmetzsch, Claudete Iris; Mohrdieck, Renate
The association between the Leningrad-Zagreb strain of mumps vaccine and aseptic meningitis has not been documented in many studies. A recent investigation looked at the aseptic meningitis outbreak after a vaccination campaign in Brazil's Rio Grande do Sul state. The researchers found that one case of the disease occurred per every 3,390 doses of the vaccine. They conclude that vaccine safety should be considered when choosing a mumps inoculation.
