"Nigeria: Cholera Outbreak Responsible for 10 Deaths"
Reuters (www.reuters.com) (11/07/02)
Health officials have linked at least 10 deaths in Taraba, Nigeria, to cholera. Regional authorities believe an outbreak of the disease in the Mayo-Lope village has spread to neighboring villages in Adamawa state. A Taraba government spokesperson said medical personnel and drugs have been deployed to the affected area to contain and prevent the outbreak from traveling to other districts. Hundreds of Africans died last year from cholera outbreaks, which frequently occur in Africa's northern region during the dry season.
