"NIAID Releases 20th Anniversary Edition of Jordan Report on Vaccine Research" NIH News Release (11/04/02)
The National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) has released "The Jordan Report 20th Anniversary," its comprehensive vaccine report, which can be found online at http://www.niaid.nih.gov/dmid/vaccines/jordan20. The report describes the state of vaccines, reviews the last 20 years, and notes important achievements in vaccinology, including a better vaccine for whooping cough and new vaccines for hepatitis B and Haemophilus influenzae type b. It also discusses topics such as vaccines against drug-resistant, emerging, and re-emerging diseases like HIV, malaria, and tuberculosis, and provides an overview of vaccine research efforts against over 60 infectious diseases. The Jordan report describes NIAID's public-private research partnerships and new programs intended to nurture the relationships and encourage research and development, and it also illustrates how new technologies may boost vaccinology. The report is organized by disease type and name and was prepared by 45 NIAID scientists with outside researcher contributions, under the direction of Dr. William Jordan, former director of the NIAID Division of Microbiology and Infectious Diseases.
