"More Money Urged to Improve Child Immunization
Rates"
Los Angeles Times (www.latimes.com)
(11/22/02) P. 22; Trick, Randy
The World Health Organization, UNICEF, and the
World Bank jointly released a 116-page report asserting that $250 million per
year in additional funding for vaccines and immunization programs would help
vaccinate at least 10 million more children against preventable diseases, and an
additional $100 million per year in support would increase access to newer
vaccines, such as the hepatitis B vaccine. Although 70 percent of children in
the world were vaccinated against diseases last year, developing countries have
the lowest percentage of vaccinated children and therefore the most preventable
deaths per year.

"I know of no safe depository of the ultimate powers of the society but the people themselves, and if we think them not enlightened enough to exercise control with a wholesome discretion, the remedy is not to take it from them, but to inform their discretion by education."
-- Thomas Jefferson, letter to William C. Jarvis, September 28, 1820
"What's the point of vaccination if it doesn't protect you from the unvaccinated?"
