"Microsoft's Gates Plans Donations for India's AIDS, Vaccination Projects" AFX-Europe (www.afxpress.com/corporate/AFX-Europe.htm) (11/07/02)
Microsoft's chairman, Bill Gates, arrived in New Delhi, India, this week for a four-day visit and meetings with Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee, Deputy Prime Minister L.K. Advani, industrialists, and AIDS activists. He announced plans to contribute to India's childhood vaccination, AIDS prevention, and other healthcare programs as a way of giving back to a country that he feels is a key contributor in the software industry and, in particular, to Microsoft. The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, in conjunction with the World Bank and Rockefeller Foundation is supporting the development of a India-specific AIDS vaccine.
