Families don't allow
administration of polio drops to children
BIJNORE (UP), NOV 28 (PTI)
Nearly 35,000 children could
not be administered polio drops following the refusal of their families
despite efforts of district administration and voluntary organisations,
official sources have said expressing fears over the success of the recent
pulse polio drive in in the district.
The health department had identified a little over 29,000 families of a
particular community who had refused to allow their children to take the
polio drop fearing that the drops were meant to cause impotency to check the
population growth among the community, the sources here have said.
Elaborate arrangements had been made here for administering polio drops
to children under five years of age in the wake of reports of a spate of
polio cases in the district, they said adding that government agencies had
visited every house to check for a child to administer the drops.
The families not only refused to allow the authorities to administer
polio drops to over 35,000 the children, they also were rude to them,
District immunisation office P K Bahuguna said pointing out opposition was
witnessed in Noorpur and Khari Jhaloo areas.
