LANCASTER, Pa. -- Wyeth
announced Tuesday that it will cease production of two of its vaccine
products, one of which,
FluShield, is manufactured in Lancaster County.
In an internal memo, sent to TheWGALChannel.com, Wyeth said 800
positions at the Marietta facility will be affected. The company said that
it is deciding what will happen to those 800 people.
The company said it will continue to develop Cold Adapted Influenza
Vaccine at the
Marietta facility, as well as continuing production of antivenin and
the smallpox vaccine.
Wyeth said adequate supplies of injectable flu vaccine are now
available in the United States as a result of recent capacity increases
provided by other manufacturers. Wyeth said it will pursue new flu
immunization technologies.
