'Generally Satisfactory'" Africa News Service (www.allafrica.com)
(11/05/02)
In its most recent bulletin, the U.N. Mission in
the Democratic Republic of Congo (MONUC), quoting the World Health Organization,
reported that 9.1 million children in the country were recently vaccinated
against polio in Congo
during the first two phases of the program. The vaccination effort was deemed
"generally satisfactory," although at least 100,000 children were not vaccinated
due to renewed hostilities during the third part of the program . "Vaccination
teams had a lot of difficulty moving around because of renewed hostilities,"
MONUC noted, quoting the WHO.
