"Companies to Test HIV Vaccine in Humans in 2003"
Reuters Health Information Services (www.reutershealth.com) (11/12/02); Woodman, Richard
British vaccine maker PowderJect announced that it would begin human testing of its DNA vaccine against HIV, which is being developed with GlaxoSmithKline, in 2003. PowderJect is developing five DNA vaccines that can be injected at supersonic speed into the immune cells in the top layer of skin, which turns them into factories that convert the DNA into proteins that stimulate the immune response against HIV. PowderJect Chairman and CEO Paul Drayson anticipates the DNA vaccine against HIV could be launched by the end of this decade.
