Canberra team working on measles model

A team in Canberra is building a mathematical model to trace the spread of measles.

The model, being compiled by medical researchers at the National Centre for Epidemiology and Population Health, will predict the likely impact of infection control measures in the community.

Project leader Niels Becker says it will help plan an efficient program to slow the spread of measles in the future.

"This mathematical model will provide a tool for assessing vaccines, designing control strategy, analysing data to determine modes of transmission and generally understanding transmission in a better way," Mr Becker said.
