"Canada to Help Eliminate Polio in Nigeria"

Following a meeting with Nigeria's President Olusegun Obasanjo, Susan Whelan, the Canadian Minister for International Cooperation, announced her country's C$20 million contribution to the Nigeria's fight against polio. The new funding adds to previous financial support for Nigeria from Canada, which helped finance a house-to-house vaccination strategy and other polio eradication efforts in the country. The funding will come from through the World Health Organization from the Canadian International Development Agency over the next three years and will pay for immunization activities against polio, the purchase of vaccine storage equipment, and education for healthcare workers.
