"CDC: Seniors Need Flu Shots"
Washington Times (www.washtimes.com) (11/15/02) P. A8
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) announced Thursday that less than two-thirds of the elderly people in the United States have been vaccinated against influenza and pneumonia. The CDC surveyed 40,000 senior citizens last year and found that 65 percent said they had received a flu shot in the preceding year, while just 60 percent had been vaccinated against pneumococcal disease, the most common form of bacterial pneumonia. The government's goal for the year 2010 is 90 percent coverage for both vaccines.
