A school in Worcestershire has banned all additives from its meals to stop
children behaving badly.
Barnabas first and middle school in Drakes Broughton banned 27
additives - including the yellow colouring in custard - during a two week
trial.
Staff started the trial after discovering a study suggested one in four
children have tantrums as a result of eating too many additives.
After two weeks staff say they noticed a marked improvement in pupils'
behaviour
Sleeping better
Headteacher Charlie Lupton said children's concentration levels had
also improved since the trial started.
"We carried out a survey of the parents to find out if they had noticed
a difference in their children's behaviour," he said.
"More than 30% of parents noticed their children were better behaved
during the trial and 18% said their children were sleeping better."
He said pupils had also commented on how much better their school meals
tasted.
