INTERNATIONAL IMMUNIZATION NEWS
"Immunisation Programme Heads Off Measles Outbreak"
United News of Bangladesh (www.oananews.com/news.index.html)
(05/14/02)
There have been no reported cases of measles in the Northern Marianas so far, according to local authorities. James Hofschneider, the secretary of the Department of Public Health, said this was primarily due to the fact that growing number of children have been immunized against measles, both in private and public health facilities. Hofschneider added that there was currently no shortage of vaccines. He says that earlier this year, the Department of Public Health was able to obtain additional supplies of the tetanus and diphtheria vaccines through a World Health Organization office in the Philippines. Extra supplies of the vaccines were also obtained from New Zealand.
