"Uganda: Health to Introduce New Vaccines, Says Official" Africa News Service (www.allafrica.com) (05/09/02)

 

Uganda is adding two vaccines to its routine immunization schedule, the country's Health Ministry announced.  According to Dr. Sam Zaramba, the director of health services, vaccines against hepatitis B and Haemophilus influenzae type B will be combined with the diphtheria, tetanus, and pertussis vaccine for routine shots.  Haemophilus influenzae type B bacteria is the leading cause of meningitis and the second most common cause of pneumonia in infants, Zaramba said.
