BBC Worldwide Monitoring (www.monitor.bbc.co.uk) (04/27/02)

The United States has announced plans to provide Kenya with technical support and $2.8 million for the development of a vaccine against malaria.  The effort is a project of the Malaria Vaccine Initiative, the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research, the Kenya Medical Research Institute, and the United States Agency for International Development.  Clinical testing of a malaria vaccine will begin with adult volunteers in Nyanza, Kenya, and will eventually include children as well.
