"Trials of Meningitis Vaccine Month Away"

As health officials in New Zealand are dealing with a new outbreak of bacterial meningitis there, the country is about to undergo its first clinical trials for a new vaccine against the deadly illness.  The government has pledged an investment of NZ$100 million for the project, as meningitis has become a significant threat after killing 26 New Zealanders last year. The trial will begin within a month, with a plan for conducting mass vaccinations by 2004.
