"No Decision on Anthrax Vaccine Program"

Washington Post (www.washingtonpost.com) (05/20/02) P. A2; Gugliotta, Guy

The Defense Department is nearing a resolution on how to restart the Anthrax Vaccine Immunization Program.  The first priority will likely be vaccinating troops sent to high-risk-areas, as supplies are not substantial enough to inoculate all military personnel.  Resumption of the program is helped by the fact that BioPort has garnered regulatory clearance to make anthrax vaccine and that the Institute of Medicine has affirmed the safety of the product.  The Defense Department is also determining how much vaccine other government agencies will need to reserve for civilian use.
