U.S. IMMUNIZATION NEWS
"Childhood Immunizations Are Focus; An Area Women, Infants, and
Children Program Screens Participants for Inoculations"
Sacramento Bee (www.sacbee.com) (05/03/01)
P. N1; Mordecai, Kim
For the last six years, the $50,000-a-year Meadowview Women,
Infants, and Children supplemental nutrition program, which is
funded by the California Department of Health Services, has been
making sure that all children in the program have received their
immunizations. The program--which serves more than 14,000
low-income women and children every month--offers free polio,
tetanus, whooping cough, and hepatitis A and B vaccines to
children under the age of 18. The county's immunization average
for two-year-olds is 65.2 percent, which is up from the 1994
average of just 40 percent.
