Interesting comments found on the babycenter board re: tetanus:

“Tetanus spores are ubiquitous. 5% of humans carry it happily multiplying in their gut - no problem. If you run your finger along my un-dusted shelf, according to information I have, you will pick up 10 to the power 6 of clostridium tetani - if you bite someone, you will pass it on - every bullet wound when tested for CT usually finds it - it is everywhere and unseen. And it is a testimony to the strength of the human body that until the obstetricians twigged on the they were the major cause of neonatal tetanus - yes, even in the states, so few people ever got it...

My family tree which goes back to 1560 has no cases of deaths to Tetanus.   But I am really sick of looking at the deaths caused by puerperal fever - you know, where doctors didn’t figure they had to wash their hands...

I am quite content that my children are not vaccinated against Tetanus. And we live slap bang in the middle of the biggest horse breeding and racing area in this country. And both kids play sport on grassy fields, and are constantly with grazes. Also puncture wounds are not the major source of tetanus infections - they only account for about 40%. If you read the literature, you will even find otitis media listed. But I like all the problems from Tetanus caused in hospital after haemorrhoids were ligated.

None of my family apart from me and my brother were ever given the vaccine.  My grandfather died at 98 years. He served in both wars, and never had any vaccines. He point blank refused... And Flanders was no synch....my grandmother died at 89. Her major health problems towards the end was cataracts.

So there are a whole lot of aspects that need to be thought about here. Not least of which is reading the manufacturers data sheet.

I could add to the list of the serious reactions I’ve seen, but don’t feel that would really be relevant.  I only know of one person who had tetanus.  She was about 26 at the time, was fully immunised, was an alcoholic, needle drug addict and ate junk. I was not surprised.”
