"U.S. Lab to Trial Aventis Anti-AIDS Vaccine, Schering Plough Drug" AFX Asia (www.afxnews.com) (03/14/02)

The first U.S. clinical study of an Aventis AIDS vaccine will be undertaken by the Institute of Human Virology at the University of Maryland.  The product fosters the production of antibodies against the Tat protein located in HIV cells.  Schering-Plough's SCH-C AIDS drug will also be tested by the lab.  The drug targets the CCR5 immune-cell surface protein used by HIV to enter the cells and infect them.
