US Flu
Advisers Put Australia Strain in Vaccine
Reuters;
[03/06/2002]
In the United States, government health advisers have decided to add
protection against a Type B strain of the flu virus originally found in
Australia to next season's flu vaccine. Although the Type B strain is
not normally found in North America, the U.S. flu vaccine usually
provides protection against the most common Type B strain circulating
around the world. The advisory panel decided earlier this year to
include protection against the same two Type A strains covered in this
year's vaccine in the 2002-2003 shot; however, they delayed making a
recommendation for the Type B strain until they had more data.
