As part of the global effort to eradicate polio, Nigeria will hold two rounds of sub-National Immunization Days in high-risk areas in April and May.  In addition, two rounds of National Immunization Days are expected this fall throughout the country, with "mop ups" efforts conducted immediately following the detection of wild poliovirus.  Wild poliovirus caused 57 cases of poliomyelitis in Nigeria last year in 17 out of 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.
