“Campaign to Encourage Immunization in Indigenous Communities” Australian Broadcasting Corp. News (www.abc.net.au/news) (03/01/02)

With Aboriginial Australians 20 times more likely to contract pneumonia than other Australians, Aboriginal actors and a Torres Strait Islander singer are being used in radio and television programs to support a new vaccination campaign.  The campaign is targeted at people in Aboriginal and Islander communities who are over the age of 50 or who have serious health problems.  Australian Health Minister Kay Patterson is calling on individuals in these communities to help reduce the number of preventable deaths by taking advantage of the free flu shots being offered.
