"Afghan Influenza Outbreak Killed 60 Children--WHO"
Reuters (www.reuters.com) (03/15/02)
Sixty children have died so far this winter as northeastern Afghanistan labors under a influenza outbreak. According to a World Health Organization spokesperson, experts treated residents of the remote Yumgan valley in Badakhshan last week, and they noted that no new flu cases have been recorded. Afghan and international medical experts are meeting this week in Kabul for the first time in about 20 years for a discussion of how to restore health and nutrition to the Afghanistan population.
