"Nurses, Patients Hit by Deadly Flu Virus; Outbreak Prompts Alert" Advertiser (AU) (www.theadvertiser.news.com.au) (06/18/02) P. 1; James, Colin

South Australians are being alerted to guard against getting the potentially deadly Moscow flu strain that has infected over 100 patients and staff at an Adelaide nursing home.  Dr. Robert Hall, the Communicable Disease Control Branch director, noted that this flu outbreak is the largest single one his unit has ever investigated and serves as a warning to elderly citizens and vulnerable people in the community at large, particularly those with chronic medical conditions.  In the meantime, the State Government reports that it has enough free vaccine doses on hand to cover all residents who are thought to be particularly at risk, such as those over age 65.  The World Health Organization is helping to investigate the outbreak.
