Africa News Service (www.allafrica.com) (06/18/02)

Health officials in the Bauchi State of Nigeria report that over 13.4 million children under the age of five have been vaccinated against polio over the last three years.  Mallam Umar Abubakar Sada, the state manager of the immunization program, said that initially, the plan was to offer vaccinations four times per year during the campaign, however 2001 was the only year that occurred.  The program, which cost 300 million naira, was funded by the federal government, the state government, and the 20 local governments in Bauchi.
