"Liquid Could Aid Vaccine Storage, Use"
Science News (www.sciencenews.org) (05/18/02) Vol. 161, No. 20, P. 318; Harder, Ben
Cambridge Biostability has developed a means of manufacturing vaccines in perfluorocarbons. The technique could prove very useful because the vaccines are able to be stored for a month without having to be refrigerated or rehydrated. The fact that little financial incentives exist for pharmaceutical products in developing countries may make companies averse to having to go through the additional regulatory requirements for new vaccine formulations. Cambridge's Bruce J. Roser notes that the situation could be alleviated by market guarantees from agencies such as the World Health Organization.
