"Child Vaccines Deemed Safe"

Seattle Post-Intelligencer (www.seattlep-I.com) (06/24/02) P. B5

A Seattle Post-Intelligencer editorial points to more than 2,000 pediatric studies that did not find a link between the MMR vaccine and autism or bowel disease as proof that vaccines are safe for children, and the author believes continued investigation into a link between vaccines and autism is a waste of funds that could be used to invent new and successful treatments.  The vaccination rate in Britain and the United States is dropping, according to the author, who blames vaccine shortages as well as a growing number of parents who mistrust the medical system.  The editorial warns that a dropping vaccination rate could lead to an increase in deadly diseases; measles was reintroduced in Seattle, Wash., last year by travelers, and such an event could occur anywhere airplanes fly and vehicles drive.
