The Government has issued a stern warning to those
spreading falsities about the impending nation-wide measles vaccination. The
Director of Medical Services, Dr Richard Muga, said anybody found maligning
the exercise will face legal action.
Meanwhile, all faith-based organisations have thrown
their weight behind the immunisation campaign and urged their followers to
take their children for the vaccination.
Catholic Archbishop Ndingi Mwana a'Nzeki said the church
fully support all health promoting activities by the Government. He, however,
warned the provincial administration against politicising the exercise as this
will keep people away.
The Provost of All Saints Cathedral, Rev Njoka, said the
Anglican Church of Kenya fully supports the exercise and promised to make
their institutions available for the exercise.
Others who supported the campaign that spans June 17 to
23 included the Hindu Muslims Council, Kenya Girl Guides Association, Kenya
Boys Scouts Association, Rotary clubs, Lions Club of Kenya and the British
army, among others.
Kenya National Union of Teachers secretary general
Francis Ng'ang'a said all teachers had been instructed to support the activity
since it aims to improve the health of children.
Addressing a news conference yesterday, Muga said the
exercise, which is expected to cover 14 million children aged between 9 months
to 14 years will be done in all available centres with special emphasis on
children at refugee centres, cross-border points and watering points in arid
areas.
