"Burundi Launches Vaccination Campaign Against
Polio, Measles" PANA Wire Service (allafrica.com) (06/18/02)
Health officials in Burundi launched on Monday
the sixth national vaccination campaign against measles and polio. The 11-day
effort aims to vaccinate 3.3 million children against measles and over 627,000
against polio, and 1.2 million young children will receive vitamin A. For the
campaign, officials have sent over 5,000 workers to eight of the country's 17
provinces; these provinces were targeted because of their low vaccination
coverage in 2001, or because of their proximity to the Democratic Republic of
Congo.
