"Angola Faces Deteriorating Human Health Situation"
Xinhua News Agency (202.84.17.11/en/main.htm) (06/14/02)
A war between the Angolan government and the rebel National Union for the Total Independence of Angola--which was recently ended in April after almost 30 years of fighting--has caused deficiencies in disease prevention and disease eradication, according to the World Health Organization (WHO). Last week, the WHO provided Angola with $10 million to control diseases and provide general health care services in Angola. The country and WHO are working together to educate citizens and provide them with access to immunizations against polio, measles, and other diseases as well as access to pre- and post-natal care to reduce the infant mortality rate.
