Tetanus Vaccine in Short Supply

Associated Press (www.ap.org) (04/10/01)

Earlier this year, one of the two producers of the tetanus vaccine halted production, which has caused a nationwide shortage that is expected to last the rest of the year.  The vaccine—which takes 11 months to produce—is required for travel to certain countries, children entering kindergarten, and for people with puncture injuries who have not received the tetanus shot for five to seven years.  In Wyoming, Campbell County Public Health and Campbell County Memorial Hospital are covering injuries with a limited supply of the vaccine, but injuries are expected to increase with the advent of spring.  The shortage, officials said, is with the adult tetanus vaccine.
