“State Hospital Staff, Patients Vaccinated After Rubella Diagnosis”
Associated Press (www.ap.org)
(03/17/01)
Barbara Peterson, the administrator at Hawaii State
Hospital, reports that all 650 staff members, as well as 159 patients, were recently
vaccinated against rubella, or German measles, unless they could prove they
were immune to the disease. The
measures were taken after a patient was diagnosed with rubella on Feb. 9. Peterson noted that eight patients and
hospital workers were suspected of being infected; however, some of those
diagnosed as rubella may have been due to false-positive results.
