Smokers could soon have two new weapons to help them quit,
KMBC 9 News reported.
A Maryland company said that it has developed a vaccine
that blocks nicotine from reaching the brain and prevents the production of the
so-called “feel good” chemicals linked to addiction, KMBC reported.
Clinical trials are to begin this year.
Researchers at Duke University have developed a nicotine
solution that can be mixed into drinks. They said the solution may be more tolerable
than the patch, inhalers and nicotine gum. The substance is tasteless when
mixed with an eight-ounce drink, KMBC reported.
The researchers hope to work with a pharmaceutical company
to conduct further studies.
