An outbreak of meningitis C in Quebec has prompted health minister Remy Trudel to urge Canadian regulatory approval of Wyeth-Ayerst Laboratories’ Meningitec vaccine.  Quebecois who have not been inoculated against meningitis are discouraged from using the old vaccine because the newer product, which has been utilized in Britain, reportedly is more effective and causes fewer side effects.
