“Chiros Against Shots for Kids: Stand Defies Evidence”

Toronto Sun (www.canoe.ca/torontosun) (03/08/01) P. 46; Marko,

Natasha

There is a great deal of scientific evidence pointing to the safety and benefits of childhood immunization.  Still, a vocal minority of Canadian chiropractors dispute the practice of vaccinating children, believing that doing so is unnecessary and can have the negative effect of polluting bodies that are otherwise healthy.  Indeed, a Canoe.ca survey of Canadian chiropractic Internet sites turned up no information in favor of vaccinations.  Perhaps their disapproval of childhood vaccinations should not be surprising, since at the core of chiropractic practice is the belief that a body without spinal “subluxations” is able to heal and regulate itself.  While this group of dissenting chiropractors is a minority in the chiropractic community, it is nonetheless a substantial minority and often voices its beliefs despite the prohibition against such statements by the College of Chiropractors of Ontario, the regulatory and licensing body for chiropractors in the province.
