"Zimbabwe: In Manicaland, 169 Die of Cholera"
Africa News Service (www.allafrica.com) (07/05/02)
The Mutare district of Zimbabwe was the worst hit region for cholera during the first six months of this year, according to Robert Mudyiradima, the provincial health officer, who noted that there were 169 deaths in Manicaland as a whole. In Mutare, there were 80 deaths, followed by 33 in Buhera and 27 in Chipinge. Mudyiradima attributes the significant number of deaths in Mutare to contaminated water supplies and imported food including fish from neighboring Mozambique.
