"U.S. Company Raises Hopes for AIDS Vaccine"
Reuters (www.reuters.com) (07/08/02); Reaney, Patricia
VaxGen is confident it will have successful Phase III testing of
a preventive vaccine for AIDS. The product works by producing
antibodies that attach to the virus' gp120 protein. Although a
100 percent success rate for a preventive vaccine is unlikely,
VaxGen president Donald Francis points out that a 30 percent
success rate would be beneficial in containing AIDS. The company
said that it would offer tiered pricing for the vaccine.
