PLACERVILLE -- An employee of The Original Mel's restaurant has been
diagnosed with hepatitis A, according to Stephen Drogin, El Dorado County
public health officer.
In a press release Thursday, Drogin warned that people who ate at the
restaurant between June 12 and July 9 may have contracted hepatitis A.
Symptoms of hepatitis A include loss of appetite, fever, dark urine,
light-colored stools, flu or run-down feeling, pain in the upper right
abdomen, nausea and jaundice.
The county Public Health Department encourages people experiencing these
symptoms to contact their doctor. It does not recommend preventive treatment
for those who ate at the Placerville restaurant between June 12 and July 9.
Julie Rimoldi, the general manager of the restaurant, said the infected
employee is being treated by a private doctor and has not worked at the
restaurant since July 9.
Rimoldi said all employees will be tested for hepatitis A today.
