"Nurse Launches Effort to Make Sure Kids Get Shots"
Charlotte Observer (www.charlotte.com/observer) (07/17/02) P. 14M; Lyttle, Steve
A nurse with the Mecklenburg County (N.C.) Health Department has launched a campaign to remind returning students to get the necessary shots before the school year begins. Funded by grant money, the drive led by Marybeth Walker also seeks to encourage individuals, as well as private and public institutions, to spread the vaccination message. Though special emphasis is directed at students from other countries, Walker says she is equally concerned about American students. "Many of them are coming to school without meeting the regulations," and so the campaign's objective is to reach them as well.
