Title: 4.4 Million Children to be Vaccinated this Weekend

Luanda, 07/25 - Some 4.4 million children aged five years and younger are expected to be vaccinated against poliomyelitis in Angola on July 26-28, an official source announced.

The World Health Organization (WHO) polio team chief in Angola, Rui Gama, said conditions are set to vaccinate the children throughout the country`s 18 provinces, adding that the technicians have already been trained and instructed.

He also informed that priority will be given to camps sheltering relatives of former UNITA soldiers and displaced people, and added that children will simultaneously also get Vitamin A.

Mr Rui Gama said the campaign will be synchronized and trans-border like, involving health authorities of the Democratic Republic of Congo, Zambia, Namibia, Gabon, Sao Tome and Principe plus Congo Brazzaville, in order to eliminate the circulation of the savage polio virus within these territories.

About 30,000 people are engaged in this campaign which has the support of Rotary International, UMICEF, USAID, Care and financial help from the Governments of Portugal, Japan, Holland and the United Kingdom.
