ABSTRACT - Japanese health officials are scrambling to halt proliferation of tainted herbal weight-loss supplements from China that have killed three people and caused liver and thyroid ailments in hundreds; many consumers bought drugs on Internet or brought them back from China, making task more difficult; Min Chikara Sakaguchi says he steps up efforts to pinpoint source of growing list of drugs, which contain banned appetite suppressant N-nitroso fenfluramine (M)
