"Infectious Diseases Spread in Flooded Areas of South Russia" BBC Worldwide Monitoring (www.monitor.bbc.co.uk) (07/06/02)
The Russian state public health inspectorate announced that 390 cases of infectious diseases, including 184 cases involving children, were reported in south Russia due to flooding. The diseases include acute intestinal disease, hepatitis A, dysentery, pediculosis, and acute respiratory disease. In order to prevent future spread of disease in the flooded areas, thousands of people are being vaccinated against hepatitis A, typhoid, and tularemia.
