"Hospital Gets $21.7 Million for Vaccine Study"
Associated Press (www.ap.org) (07/03/02)
The National Institutes of Health (NIH) has awarded the Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center a five-year, $21.7 million grant for vaccine research as part of a national initiative against bioterrorism. The funding will allow the hospital to expand its current vaccine research, including research on smallpox and other potential bioweapons. The hospital, the same one where Dr. Albert Sabin created his oral polio vaccine, became one of currently seven NIH-designated Vaccine and Treatment Evaluation Units in 1994. There are now seven such vaccine units throughout the United States.
