"Health Department Seeks More Vaccinations for Students" Associated Press (www.ap.org) (07/21/02)

Minnesota is considering a state Health Department plan that would require school-aged children to receive the chickenpox vaccination, as well as pneumococcal and hepatitis B shots for infants and toddlers in day care.  Those children who are already in grade school would be required to receive mandatory chickenpox vaccinations by the seventh grade, though older children and those who have already had chickenpox would be exempt.  A public hearing about the vaccine proposals will be held this week in St. Paul, but the approval process for the plan could take two years.
