"Health Canada Says It Is Monitoring a Rise in
Measles Cases in Various Parts of the World" Canadian Press (www.canpress.ca/english/hp.htm)
(07/15/02)
Health Canada, concerned about an increase in
measles cases in some parts of the world, is advising Canadians to check with
their physicians about preventive measures before traveling. "A doctor can
determine individual health risks and their need for vaccination, preventative
medication, and personal protective measures," Health Canada said. Individuals
traveling to countries such as Colombia,
Venezuela, Denmark, Italy, Guam, and Papua New Guinea--all of which have
recorded higher numbers
of measles cases--should make sure their measles shots are current, the health
group said.
