INTERNATIONAL IMMUNIZATION NEWS

"Ethiopia Set to Immunize 14 Million Children Against Polio" BBC Worldwide Monitoring (www.monitor.bbc.co.uk) (07/19/02)

The 2002 National Immunization Days (NIDs) in Ethiopia will attempt to reach about 14 million children under the age of five in October and again in December, according to Ministry of Health Hiwot Mengistu.  NIDs are essential in the country as it moves closer to the goal of polio eradication by 2005, notes Family Health Department head Tesfanesh Belay.  She believes local resources must plan for NIDs, so that local help compliments help from external sources, such as the World Health Organization, Rotary International, and the governments of the United Kingdom, Japan, and Canada.
